In this episode…
Exponential growth is about more than increasing revenue — it’s about building a business that creates greater freedom, impact, and lasting significance. But how do entrepreneurs move beyond being the person who makes everything happen to building an organization that can thrive without them?
According to John Bowen, a financial services entrepreneur and researcher, exponential growth comes from shifting from operator to architect and intentionally building the systems, intellectual property, and relationships that allow a business to scale. He highlights how proprietary research, collaboration, and AI can create powerful leverage while helping entrepreneurs protect their time and increase their impact. Drawing from thousands of successful entrepreneurs, John shares the ten multipliers outlined in The Greater Game and explains how he applied these principles throughout his own career. He also emphasizes designing a business around freedom and legacy, not simply financial success.
In this episode of the Inspired Insider Podcast, host Dr. Jeremy Weisz sits down with John Bowen, Founder and CEO of CEG Worldwide and CEG Insights, to discuss achieving exponential growth and building a business around freedom and legacy. They explore the shift from operator to architect, the role of AI and intellectual property, and the ten multipliers behind exponential growth. John also shares lessons from building and selling businesses, along with how he uses his Greater Game Dashboard.

Episode Transcript:
Intro 00:15
You are listening to Inspired Insider with your host, Dr. Jeremy Weisz.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz 00:22
Dr. Jeremy Weisz here. I am the Founder of InspiredInsider.com, where I talk with inspirational entrepreneurs and leaders. Today is no different.I have John Bowen. There are several sites you can check out for John CEGWorldwide.com. That’s one of the sites CEGInsights.com. Also, the book The Greater Game, TheGreaterGameBook.com. And also, they have a dashboard, which you can check out TheGreaterGameDashboard.com. And John, I always like to, before I formally introduce you, I always like to highlight other episodes of the podcast people should check out, and I’d love to hear some of yours. This is part of my Top Finance Leader series and Author Series. And so Gino Wickman was a great episode, which he’s also featured in the book.
John Bowen: 01:04
I get together quarterly with him, and he’s a very good friend and just a great example of a successful entrepreneur leveraging IP and creating tremendous value and making a big, you know. And Gino is one of those guys who’s not in it for the money. He’s in it for the impact. And it allowed him to make a huge difference, which is written up in the book.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 01:26
Yeah. Traction and Rocket Fuel. So I had Mark Winters on separately, you know, because he was a good friend. Oh yeah. So I’m gonna get some of your favorite books by Chris Voss. I’ve Never Split the Difference was another great guest guy.
John Bowen: 01:40
You know, if I always like what’s his word on empathy?
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 01:44
It’s tactical empathy.
John Bowen: 01:46
Tactical empathy. And I spent some quality time with Chris, and just a phenomenal. You have to listen to Chris. I mean, any if you have to do negotiations at all, you want to listen to Chris.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 02:00
You know, it’s funny, John. I got the book not for business, but for parenting for kids. Because I figure, like, he deals with terrorists on there. Like, then I have to negotiate with my kids every step of the way. You know what I mean? And it wouldn’t be a conversation without Dan Kuschell. I mean, Dan Kuschell kind of reconnected us. We met, you know, I had Jason Gaynor on the podcast, who we met through his mastermind talks, and then Dan Kuschell wrote several books, and he’s like.
John Bowen: 02:29
Jeremy, if you’re interested in marketing breakthroughs, Dan’s the guy.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 02:34
Love it. So those are a few. I mean, there are many more in Inspired Insider. What are some of your favorite books out there? And I know you’ve done hundreds of episodes. I don’t know if there’s any. Your top favorite authors, obviously, Dan Sullivan, because you co-wrote.
John Bowen: 02:47
Well, Dan, you know, and, and you know, Ben Hardy too; I mean, wrote three books together. And, you know, really one of the inspirational ones for me. I mean, two of those three, I think, were our world-class, you know; I think it’s 10x Is Easier Than 2x. And actually, that was a motivation for where Dan and I are now at 100X on The Greater Game because of AI. And I think one of the simplest concepts, but Ben did a great job of really articulating, was who, not how. You know, we in today’s world, particularly, you know, we’re, you know, entrepreneurs, we always think we have to know how to do it. And, you know, there are just so many talented people and so many talented tools that we can use. There are so many books. One of the challenges, Jeremy, though, this year, as a matter of fact, this morning I talked with my wife and I, I love reading, I’ve written three books this year. So I think, don’t.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 03:53
You have like 20 total books or something like that?
John Bowen: 03:55
I’m probably up to, I think 26 now.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 03:58
26 wow.
John Bowen: 03:59
Yeah. And yeah, I’m writing a monthly column. And when you start, you know, and then all the stuff internally I’ve gone, I’m not really reading other than my stuff right now.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 04:11
You don’t have time. But you know, another one you mentioned was Chip Conley, and you’re co-writing. Do you want to talk about that for a second?
John Bowen: 04:17
Yeah. Well, and we’re coming out. This is, you know, we haven’t released it yet, but Chip Conley and I have just finished. I just went off to the printer a new book chip. I think he’s done 2 or 3 New York Times bestsellers and is just really a midlife expert, modern elder Academy. He’s also famous for being number four at Airbnb global hospitality and leader and Chip and I, I mean, one of our passions, I, I serve the financial service community, financial advisors. And, you know, there’s just such a need. So many of us have one. I mean, we’ve had great lives for a great position.
And, you know, we’re moving from that accumulation stage to, okay, where do you go from here? What do you want to do when you grow up? I’m 70 and you know, I’m mentally I’m 26. But you know, physically I get reminded I’m not. And so Chip and I decided to write a book called What’s Next? It’s the second, the operating manual for the second half of life for those people who have one. And it’s just been really an amazing book. You know, we’ve got nine accelerators. It’s all researched with a thousand very successful people, some great stories in there and so on. So I think it’ll probably come out in January. But what’s next?
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 05:45
Yeah. I mean, you have a bunch of books behind you there. So I know I’m, I’m pretty much most.
John Bowen: 05:50
Most of them on the top row I wrote there. Yeah. I tend to be actually going up now with the help of AI from 150 pages to more, usually about 250. Type thing, but it’s interesting to see. Yeah. I mean, this is a great time. I know you do so many entrepreneurs, you work with Jeremy, but the, you know, if you’re a domain expert, subject matter expert, you know, with the help of AI today, you know, you’ve got the judgment, you’ve got the relationships, you have the ability to coordinate and bring this stuff together. There’s never been a better time to be an entrepreneur. Before we turned on the camera, I talked about, you know, my 70th birthday last year. I started three more companies. It’s just why not do that type thing? And there, you know, we’re having some really big success with them.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 06:41
Well, I promise I will formally introduce John in a second. But I just have to step. There’s a good story, John, behind if you’re watching the video, I have TheGreaterGameDashboard.com. I know John, you know, you were talking about AI and I know when you originally were going to build this cool software behind the scenes, you got quoted a lot of money and you went in a different direction. Do you want to talk a little bit about like, why that’s.
John Bowen: 07:04
A good story? Nobody’s ever asked me that one. Jeremy. Yeah. Then, you know, I wanted Dan Sullivan’s very good friend. He’s been a coach of mine for many years. And Dan and I started talking and we ended up signing a 25 year deal together for doing research on entrepreneurs. And I think we’re now studying 500 every month. We’re probably approaching ten 000 that we’ve done and all kinds of learned lessons in the books about the 5.4% that are just winning like crazy. But when I’m putting the dashboard together, I used deep-used AI to find who were the best dashboard builders. And I won’t mention the name, but you know, a great company, great group of guys, 5000 a year to do it. And I’m ready to sign the deal. And I have my tech people on my lead tech people and they’re, you know, at the end of the meeting, I said, what do you guys think?
I’m all ready to write the check. And they go, why don’t you give us, you know, a day and we’ll put it together for you type thing? And, you know, many of you are familiar with vibe coding. In this case, we’re using lovable and this was built and, you know, and the nice thing is we own the code. So this is an improved version from the very first one, a lot more tools. We’re getting feedback from entrepreneurs. We want this to be a place that you can come to. You can get our latest research on your fellow entrepreneurs. You can see how you’re doing. You can get a 90 day game plan. It’s pretty amazing. And, you know, none of this would have been, I mean, this would have been 100,000 a year, which, you know, very few books could do that, justify that. And we did get a mid six figure advance on the book. So we probably could have. But, you know, this is what’s all possible for everybody here type thing.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 08:58
I’m wondering, John, what tools you’re experimenting with. I mean, you mentioned lovable. I know people use things like Claude Code and, and other things. What are you experimenting with with AI lately?
John Bowen: 09:09
Yeah. So for me, the, the big thing is, you know, I’ve used a lot of the custom tools, my job, you know, I’m CEO and, you know, not to get into the, I’m a heavy tech user, but not a the tools, but what we ended up doing, Jeremy, which is so powerful is the. We have all our empirical research from our research company. So we’re surveying 20,000 high net worth, ultra high net worth people a year. And we sell that to our corporate clients.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 09:44
With CG Insights.
John Bowen: 09:45
Insights.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 09:46
Yeah.
John Bowen: 09:46
And then we take from our coaching company, training company. We have 10,000 recorded conversations each year now, and that’s put together. And we have a we trademarked, we have a Nightingale AI as our proprietary. So we’re originating what is really going on. And it gives us a huge competitive moat. We then one of the things that’s really cool that we’re now releasing, we’re just in beta with some of our top clients. One of the challenges for financial advisors is there’s been an explosion of wealth largely from entrepreneurs. And moving up market has been a real issue. And because, you know, the wealthy people don’t want you to practice on them for some reason, I don’t know what that is and to have conversations.
So we created and we used a company that’s everybody. Or actually it’s not hajjan now we went to someone else, but hey, John is very good. And now you create the synthetic avatar, our AI system, and now you can decide what level of wealth you want to talk to. We have all the attitude behaviors for 20 years from our research company, and it is just amazing. I was demoing it with a large enterprise and they went ahead and it was Charlie. It was a successful entrepreneur, just did a $50 million sale and he got a little fixated on fees and type things. And you never know what’s going to come up. And, you know, and I wrote kind of it scores you and says what you did right, what you did wrong. And it’s updated every month with the latest research.
And I was able to get a 94 only. I didn’t get the 100 at the time, but it is, you know, the tools today are huge. And I, I’ll tell you my favorite one, Jeremy. Everybody has. Is ChatGPT up with the voice? Turn on the voice. Brainstorm with it. I don’t know myself. I do every morning and at the end of the day, and you know, I’m a former Navy pilot after action report type thing of how the day went, how one of the things we’re going to talk about, you know, is this movement from operator to architect where you can create so much value, bigger impact. Most of us are caught if we’re entrepreneurs, we’re caught in that.
And this allows us to create tremendous value. I scored myself on, you know, how did I do that day? You know, I mean, yesterday I was 88%. And quite honestly, anything over 80% I’m happy with. And, you know, my role, as you know, I get an A, a B, a C, a D type thing. And I asked it to grade me hard and it allows me to think out and then, you know, create. I have a meeting later today on the next book coming out after chips, and we’re putting the marketing plan together with my, you know, team. And, you know, how do you fit this exactly in the marketing cycle and just brainstorm there and then give a two pager to the person to really start thinking about. But yeah, those would be some of the tools.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 13:17
Yeah. No, it is amazing. Just I like to hear the use cases of these things, people using Claude or ChatGPT, but you know, really engaging in the chat function. And I basically had Wispr Flow for a while and then I downloaded Google Eloquent, which is a desktop app that just does voice to text because I don’t want to type anymore, because it takes.
John Bowen: 13:42
Just speaking naturally, I’ve had it for 20 years and you know, same concept. I do not type anything. And it’s just it’s so much quicker along the way. But I would use whatever one you like. I’m not familiar with the Google One, the Wispr Flow. You know, it’s been a big hit out there thing.
