In this episode…
Hotels lose revenue when potential guests encounter slow websites, missed calls, poor pricing, or complicated booking experiences. AI can address these gaps while allowing hotel teams to focus on delivering better stays — but what does an effective AI revenue engine actually look like?
According to Rudy Ganesh, a software developer turned product leader, an effective AI revenue engine combines direct-booking technology, automated marketing, intelligent pricing, and personalized guest communication. He highlights how AI agents can manage campaigns, recover abandoned bookings, answer calls and chats, and adjust room rates based on demand and competitor activity. Together, these tools help hotels attract more guests, convert more inquiries, and improve profitability without proportionally expanding their teams. Rudy also applies e-commerce lessons from Amazon, such as reducing checkout friction, offering relevant payment options, and re-engaging interested customers. By automating digital tasks, hotels can dedicate more attention to on-site operations and memorable guest experiences.
In this episode of the Inspired Insider Podcast, Dr. Jeremy Weisz sits down with Rudy Ganesh, Co-founder and CEO of Hotelzify, to discuss building an AI revenue engine for hotels. They explore direct-booking conversion, automated marketing and pricing, and AI concierge tools. Rudy also shares how customer feedback shapes product development and profitable growth.

Intro: 00:15
You are listening to Inspired Insider with your host, Dr. Jeremy Weisz.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 00:22
Dr. Jeremy Weisz here, Founder of InspiredInsider.com, where I talk with inspirational entrepreneurs and leaders today is no different. I have Rudy Ganesh, he’s the CEO and Co-founder of Hotelzify and Rudy, before formally introduce you, I want to point out some other episodes people should check out. Since this is part of the top software series, we’ll talk about hotels. It’s really interesting. They, you know, like a lot of companies, Rudy, they start off doing one thing and they evolve over time. Right? Right now they help elevate hotel success with an AI powered solution and really maximize direct bookings, streamline operations, and deliberately unforgettable guest experience and with cutting edge AI technology. And so we’ll get into that.
But some of the interesting interviews on the software side, one of the founders of Jotform, they talked about how they kind of scaled it to over 25 million users on the back of a freemium model. They had one of the co-founders of Pipedrive as well. Talk about some of the pivots along the way. And it’s not always sunshine and rainbows, but some of the hard times in the journey. And Zapier was another one. Wade Foster talks about the journey of Zapier, so check out those on InspiredInsider.com.
This episode is brought to you by Rise25. At Rise25, we help businesses connect to their dream relationships and partnerships. We do that in a few ways. One, we’re an easy button for a company to launch and run a podcast. So we do the strategy, accountability and full execution and production, even from a company’s side, if they have different thought leadership episodes, they should be producing for their company that they don’t have the time or energy or they don’t set it aside. We come on and do that with you. Number two, for companies gifting so it could be staying top of mind for clients, partners, prospects, even staff from a culture perspective, like we have important partners and clients. I love the philosophy, Rudy, that I like to send them stuff in the mail. Right? Not just once a year. I mean, a lot of times people don’t do anything, but frequently. Right? So think every 3 to 4 months for five years. Right. And so just send us a list of addresses. We’ll do everything else. We’re kind of like the magic elves that help companies just continue to build amazing relationships.
You know, for me, that’s the number one thing in my life is to always be giving to my relationships. I found no better way to profile the people I admire and send them sweet treats in the mail. So if you have questions, you can or check out Rise25.com. If you have questions, you can email [email protected] to learn more.
I am excited to introduce Rudy Ganesh, as I mentioned, CEO and Co-founder of Hotelzify. He’s a software developer turned product manager turned founder. He worked at companies like JPMorgan, Amazon. And Hotelzify’s technology powers over 20,000 hotels globally, with just a 14 at this point, 14 person team and growing up, and it’s really exciting to see what they’ve created. I’m going to pull up the website now, but Rudy, thanks for joining me and tell people about Hotelzify and what you do.
Rudy Ganesh: 03:36
Hey, Jeremy. Nice. Thank you for having me. So we basically realized that with the advent of AI, there’s going to be specific agents that you can build to solve different use cases. We’re looking at different use cases that a hotel has in terms of its staff roles, and how can I help them assist doing their job better. So it starts from, you know, building your website, which is the booking engine, which we call our industry, which is your website and the ability to book itself. It goes into marketing, which is running campaigns across Google, Meta and your different OTA platforms and ensuring that you’re spending your budget well.
The sales concierge is another agent which is taking your chats, calls, seeing that if a guest book before which you can give a more personalized experience on call, send them discounted rates if you know you have inventory available. And then now we’re also launching a new AI revenue manager, which is to manage your pricing, which is looking at your competition, looking at how many bookings they are getting, looking at how you update prices.
So the idea is that if we can do the digital space heavy lifting for a hotel and let their staff and team focus on ground operations, can we give one guest a better experience? And second is to get them more guests. Because at the end of the day, every hotel is sitting on average, about 50% occupancy across the country. Can we get them to 60, 65? because that’s the difference between making money and breaking even. And that’s where we think AI is a very strong opportunity that hotels have. And we’re one of those companies that are trying to drive that change.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 05:09
I’m wondering, Rudy, you could probably build just about anything. I mean, you work at JPMorgan and Amazon. You’re a software engineer. Why hotels?
Rudy Ganesh: 05:20
Oh, okay. Yeah. So this is actually a very selfish reason. But the honest truth is I just like travel. And I think during Covid, I was, you know, just when Covid got done, I was traveling because Amazon had worked from home and I backpacked for a year and a half. And then I realized I want to continue traveling, but obviously I can’t do that as a full time job yet. So how do I take something I like with travel? So that was like an intent of why I want to take that jump from like a, from, from the heart. And I think what I also realized is my background is very good for this.
So I worked in retail. So I understand what retail does to convert, right? If you’re on Amazon, there are a thousand tricks that are there to get you to convert and make it easier for you to make that decision. If you look at hospitality and I know booking.com and the likes have things going for them, but most of the hotels themselves don’t have technology to do that. So I think that experience, along with traveling for work, being in JP as well as Amazon, I had spent time at hotels. I understood what I liked about them.
I did not like the fact that I had to, you know, still pick up a phone and wait for eight rings or someone to pick up for a call, and I could see some pain points that I myself had seen traveling, along with just an interest to say, hey, I like to travel. So if I get to be in Singapore today and Minneapolis tomorrow, like why not, right? I mean, that’s one of the things I think we all want to do in life is see as many places as we can. And this kind of gives me that opportunity.
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 06:46
Talk about that convert. Right. What did you see at Amazon? Obviously, what did you bring over to Hotelzify that in Amazon, you said there’s a bunch of things you could do to convert. You know, we have a lot of people who listen to like have e-commerce businesses. So they, you know, or websites in general. What were some of those elements that helped conversion in Amazon?
Rudy Ganesh: 07:07
Sure. So I think one of the things that, I think it starts with price, right? So there was so much of checks at the company level to see that. Are we priced competitively on our products? So you were checking retail stores. We were checking Walmarts. We were checking what other online companies have. And fundamentally you understood that’s a primary use point. Then you try to understand after that, when I’m giving you payment options, what are the things that actually stick? Like so many people have 20 payment options. They overwhelm the customer. At Amazon, they start really understanding that customers need few options. And what are those main options that tick? So I think that leveraging that payments itself, I think we saw conversion rates increase by about 20% at some point just because they made that frictionless. Right. And so much more easier showing you the right payment options.
The third thing that I think we saw, which we brought in as well in hospitality, was if you’re any, any e-commerce site, be Shopify or be it Amazon, if you go on their website and if the items are out of stock, they’re going to take your details and say, we’ll reach out to you. How many hotel rooms do that? Very rarely. If you exit the page and you don’t come back, they will retarget with a discount saying, hey, prices dropped. Do you want an offer? How many hotel rooms do that? Booking does. But do hotels themselves do it? Never.
So I think that was something we saw as well that can you get re-engage the guests back again. See if a customer is really interested in your products. Check out your cost of acquisition is already done right. You’ve spent a lot to get that customer to your checkout, giving them a few percentage points or, or even a few percentages of discount is not going to affect your unit economics because at the end of the day, you’ve already spent so much.
So those are, I think, things we learned, like from Amazon, which then we said, obviously apart from that, it’s about how fast websites load and the basics of technology, which was missing as well. But I think the main facets was how can you go over and beyond to ensure you convert every single customer or guest that comes on your website?
Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 09:06
We’ll talk about, you know, because your learnings from your past bleed into some of the features and things you’ve created for hotels, obviously learning from the market. But I want to talk about in the beginning, I mentioned you started off as one thing and you didn’t end up as that thing. So how did it start? What was the idea in the beginning?
