In this episode…

Organizations face a critical challenge: modernizing legacy systems without sacrificing speed, security, or flexibility. As AI transforms enterprise software development, how can businesses accelerate digital transformation while staying in control?

For Raveesh Dewan, an engineer, open-source advocate, and enterprise technology leader, the answer lies in combining low-code development with AI while keeping organizations in control of their technology. He highlights that simply automating inefficient processes only creates faster inefficiencies, making process improvement just as important as automation. From helping a telecommunications company replace a legacy ERP system in under nine months to enabling a hospice to digitize patient records and improve patient care, he demonstrates how visual application development can solve complex business challenges. Raveesh also explains the rise of “vibe composition,” the advantages of open-source platforms, and how reusable applications help organizations innovate more quickly without sacrificing governance or scalability.

In this episode of the Inspired Insider Podcast, host Dr. Jeremy Weisz sits down with Raveesh Dewan, President and CEO of Joget Inc., to discuss building AI-powered enterprise application platforms. They explore how to avoid the pitfalls of automating broken processes, replace legacy ERP systems with low-code solutions, and use AI-driven visual app composition to accelerate innovation.

  1. Define business outcomes before automating: Start with the problem you want to solve to avoid simply automating inefficient processes.
  2. Leverage low-code and AI-powered development: Use visual application platforms to accelerate development while reducing reliance on traditional coding.
  3. Prioritize governance from the start: Choose solutions with built-in security, compliance, and scalability for long-term success.
  4. Take advantage of reusable components: Use pre-built apps, templates, and plugins to speed up deployment and focus on business-specific needs.
  5. Encourage continuous learning and collaboration: Empower teams to adopt new technologies, share knowledge, and work together to drive successful digital transformation.

Intro 00:15

You are listening to Inspired Insider with your host, Dr. Jeremy Weisz.

Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 00:22

All right, here we are. Dr. Jeremy Weisz here, Founder of InspiredInsider.com, where I talk with inspirational entrepreneurs and leaders. Today is no different. I have Raveesh Dewan, CEO and President of Joget. You can check him out at joget.com. And Raveesh, before I formally introduce you, I always like to point out other episodes of the podcast people should check out. You know, this is part of the top software series.

Some of the interesting interviews were. I had one of the co-founders of Zapier on Wade Foster. He talked about the journey early on. Kwin Kramer, a CEO and Co-founder of Daily. And they are involved with Pipe Cat as well. A lot, just real time video platform that provides APIs for audio, video, AI related stuff. And let’s see, Pipedrive also in their journey as well. Just it was interesting to hear not just the ups, but the peaks and valleys that go, challenges that go on with running a company. So that and many more on InspiredInsider.com.

This episode is brought to you by Rise25. At Rise25, we help businesses connect to their dream relationships. We do that in a few ways. One, we’re an easy button for a company to launch and run a podcast. We also do an easy button for a company’s gifting. So staying top of mind for clients, partners, prospects, even staff. From a culture perspective, you know, all of that. And we, you know, for me, the number one thing in my life is relationships. I’m always looking at ways to give to my relationships. I found no better way over the past over 15 years to profile the people I admire in the podcast and send them sweet treats in the mail. So if you have questions, go to Rise25.com. You can email [email protected] if you have any questions.

I am super excited to introduce Raveesh. As I was saying, President and CEO of Joget. They’re building next generations AI powered applications integration platforms and really to help accelerate digital transformation for enterprises. I’ll pull up their website in a second.

They have some incredible companies that they’ve done work with, including IBM, Xerox, Nissan, Boeing, BMW, the list goes on and on. Right. And you know, really when we were talking before we hit record. Enterprises don’t just want faster like app development, right? They need faster innovation without being locked into really expensive and rigid platforms. Right. And so what your company does is it gives them an open AI powered way to build, automate, integrate, and just modernize applications with their control, right? So the future is not just about coding faster with AI, but it’s about composing intelligent applications faster that make sure there’s governance, openness, freedom. And as I know what you’re focused on. So we’ll dig into that. But first of all, thanks for joining me and just talk about what you do a little bit.

Raveesh Dewan: 03:40

Sure, sure. Jeremy. First of all, thank you so much for having me here. Well, let’s quickly talk about it and then we’ll talk about myself. So as you mentioned, we are more business outcome focused Platform, not just building applications. And I always say you want to automate a process. You can do that. But if you automate a mess, you get automated mess, right? So that’s why business outcomes are significantly important to us. That’s where we start. And we work backwards with our customers. So that’s the key, you know, thing that we do at Joget. Yes. Obviously the realization of that is by virtue of building the apps in the right way that are governed and are also sustainable. It’s not just the building of the app. You have to maintain that app. You have to, you know, kind of nourish that over time.

That’s the real key thing. As for me, what I do at Joget, you can think about me as a chief janitor officer. You, you know, with the when you’re building a team, you get to do everything you get to do, you know, starting demos to working with the customers to, you know, building strategy. So all those things I would say, but I’m lucky to have very, very, you know, talented team members in my team, you know, starting from the team members who are building the apps, who, who have been there from the, you know, from day one, you know, some of my team members like Jack, Julian and Hugo, they have been there starting day one. And so they’re a really good, you know, leadership team, like, you know, Alex and you know Shweta, that is building the, the, the, you know, the whole customer journey with us.

Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 05:34

We’ll talk about how you get started there, how you met the team and everything like that. I want to talk about the evolution of the company and how you got these big name customers as well. But based on what you said, I want to just understand how people are using Joget right? So I know we could either talk. I know there was you have a lot of different types of clients here. I know there’s like a large services company, a telco company, whichever one you think, how is that large services company using your platform?

Raveesh Dewan: 06:14

Yeah. Let me talk about two scenarios, Jeremy. One is obviously a large commercial telco company. They have transformed. They’ve built something. And I mean, I, I commend them in the journey that they took with us. It’s not an easy journey when you are replacing a large ERP and building something of your own with those building blocks, it’s challenging. It’s not just challenging from a tech perspective, it’s challenging from, you know, shepherding all the resources in the right direction. And they did that in, in, in less than nine months. That’s right. And you can think about when they are doing 22 million, 23 million transactions.

Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 06:52

Were they migrating off of their current ERP? Is that. Yes. Okay. Because a lot of ERP, you’re kind of locked into certain features or functions and they want more flexibility.

Raveesh Dewan: 07:03

Yeah. They wanted a lot more flexibility in the amount of changes that they were doing to ERP was not, you know, tenable for them. Yeah. They wanted something highly custom just because of how the market is driving them.

Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 07:17

How are they using the ERP? Like what was the main function? They may have several different functions for people listening.

Raveesh Dewan: 07:26

So talk about scheduling, you know, workforce talk about, you know, asset management. Talk about the customer ticketing system, right? Talk about the new business capture that they are doing, right. So all those things are tied together to each other. And that’s what they did with our platform. Built all those critical applications that talk to each other to, you know, get the business outcome that they were looking for.

Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 07:53

So how does onboarding work then? Because obviously you it’s highly technical. So they basically scoping it. Do the companies that come to you have internal team members? Are those internal team members helping build it out? How does it work?

Raveesh Dewan: 08:12

Excellent question. So it works both ways. One part is they want to learn and they want to do it themselves. Second, you know channel is they work with the SI’s and they want us to partner with those SI’s or in some cases SI’s take us to those customers. Right. So we work with large SI’s, you know, like Infosys and Digitized and Agile, you know, various SI’s across the globe that we are working with to take it forward to their customers as well. And that’s what we do. You asked about the onboarding process. One of the things that we always ask customers, even before they start, is what do they have in mind? What problem are they solving?

Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 09:01

So these are like system integrators. It could be inside the company, or maybe it’s some external consulting company that they hired that does system integration. Yep. Gotcha.

Raveesh Dewan: 09:11

Exactly. Exactly. And a number of companies do it all by themselves as well.

Dr. Jeremy Weisz: 09:18

And then the platform it’s I I’ve heard you talk before on panels and things. It’s really a no code low code platform.
